This week's easy harvest bouquet watercolor tutorial, "Gathered with Love," started with something I believe down to my toes: a gathered, home-made bouquet beats a store-bought one every single time. Nobody arranged it for show. Somebody just walked outside, picked what was pretty, and tied it together with love.
Our California garden was like that. My husband's pride and joy, overflowing with citrus and avocados, more than two people could ever use. I'd wander out with nothing in mind and come back with my hands full. Nothing matched, but everything belonged.
That's the feeling inside this week's painting, and it's the heart of this tutorial: gratitude looks good on you, and it looks even better in watercolor.
And here is the bouquet I painted:

Gathered with Love: An Easy Harvest Bouquet Watercolor Tutorial for Beginners
Mixing Our Harvest and Heart Colors
A Fun Trick: Mix-Your-Own Wheat Gold
I painted the simplest version of it. Not every grain of wheat, not every leaf vein. Just the feeling: a round pumpkin at the center, wheat stalks standing tall, fall leaves tucked in around them, all tied with a bow.
A gathered bouquet doesn't ask to be perfect. The wheat leans a little. The leaves land where they land. The bow is a bit lopsided. And somehow it's more beautiful than anything arranged for show.
And because no painting leaves my table without one, there's a tiny heart tucked in beside the bouquet. Some signatures are initials. Mine is a heart.
This project also gave me another chance to play with our Fall Collection palette. This week's colors are called Harvest and Heart: Sunlit Gold, Rust Orchard, Fallen Bark, Evergreen Hush and Dusty Bloom.
The bouquet was perfect for it.
I washed the pumpkin in warm Sunlit Gold and Rust Orchard, painted the wheat stalks in a golden wash of Sunlit Gold + Rust Orchard, and let Evergreen Hush and Dusty Bloom bring the leaves and the little bow to life.
One of my favorite things about working with a limited palette is discovering how many colors you can make without reaching for another tube of paint.
There's also a very simple trick in this week's tutorial that you can use in all kinds of paintings.
No wheat-gold on your palette? You can mix your own. Swirl Sunlit Gold and Fallen Bark, plus a touch of Dusty Bloom together, and you'll get a warm harvest gold that's perfect for wheat stalks. Try different combinations of these colors to find your perfect wheat color. Play with the amounts. More gold keeps it bright and sunny. More bark makes it deeper and richer. That's the fun part, and no two mixes will look exactly alike, which is exactly as it should be.
For this week's project, we'll paint a sweet little harvest bouquet together from beginning to end.
We'll start with an easy outline, wash in loose watercolor layers using our Harvest and Heart colors, add the pumpkin, the wheat and the leaves, and finish with a fine-tip black pen. That's always my favorite moment, when the wobbly wash suddenly looks like it meant to do that all along.
And yes, there's a tiny heart in there too. 🩷

No watercolor experience is necessary. You can trace the outline if you'd rather not draw the bouquet yourself, and you certainly don't need to use the exact same paints I do. The idea isn't to make yours look exactly like mine. It's to paint something that makes you smile.

Is a harvest bouquet hard to paint in watercolor?
No! A bouquet is one of the friendliest subjects for a beginner. It's mostly simple shapes: a round pumpkin, straight wheat stalks and leaf ovals. In this easy harvest bouquet watercolor tutorial, we keep everything loose and whimsical, so wobbly lines just add charm.
What watercolor colors do I need for this bouquet?
I used my five-color Fall Collection palette, all Daniel Smith paints: Hansa Yellow Light, Transparent Red Oxide, Raw Umber, Sap Green and Quinacridone Rose. You don't need these exact paints. Similar yellow, rusty orange, brown, green and pink watercolors will work.
Do I need to know how to draw to paint this bouquet?
No. This project is designed for beginners, and you can use a simple traced outline if drawing feels intimidating. The goal is to enjoy painting the shapes and colors, not to draw a perfectly proportioned bouquet.
How do you paint wheat stalks?
Loosely! Wash in a light golden layer for each stalk, then add small oval grains on both sides while it's still damp so the color blooms. Wheat is very forgiving. A little lean just makes it look natural.
What if I don't have a wheat-gold color?
Mix your own. Swirl Sunlit Gold and Fallen Bark + a touch of Dusty Rose together on your palette until you get a warm orange-gold you like. It's one of my favorite tricks.
What if my bouquet looks wonky?
Good. Wonky becomes whimsical around here. A leaning stalk or a lopsided bow just gives your bouquet more personality.
Today I gather with a grateful heart.
I like this week's Heart Practice because it's something you can carry with you all week, paintbrush or not.
In gratitude, you can say a little thank-you for everything you've gathered this year. The warm drink. The friend who called. The quiet ten minutes with a paintbrush in your hand.
Then, take a deep breath and smile at your painting.
Sometimes the smallest things, a leaning wheat stalk, a few brushstrokes on paper, remind us of the biggest truth: you belong here.
With heart and color,
🩷 Donna

How Do I Know if This Guide Is for Me?
I'm a new entrepreneur, will this guide work for me?
There is a LOT to learn when it comes to marketing your business and making money online. There are tons of methods and strategies out there and I guarantee, if you Google, "How to make money online" and start reading, you will quickly become overwhelmed. That's why I teach the most critical and tried and true method to all business owners who are just starting out. Even if you've been in business for years, there's a good chance you are not taking advantage of the best way to get clients on the internet, and I explain it fully in this Guide.
I'm not gonna lie, there's a lot of information packed into this free little Guide, but don't worry! The best thing you can do for your business is to get started. Become educated but don't over-educate yourself. Things are always evolving on the internet and just when you think you have it all figured out, things will change. The good news is it is getting easier and easier to learn the technology and become a 'work from anywhere at any time' entrepreneur and make a full or part-time income with very little overhead.
So dive in, get my Guide and if you become overwhelmed or confused, you can always schedule a complimentary laser-focus session with me and I'll help you sort it out and steer you in the right direction. Instructions for scheduling are in the Guide.

Can this guide really help me start to make money online?
When it comes to making money online, there are a LOT of ways to do it, and they can all be successful! I've found the main problem to be a lack of focus and consistent, persistent action if a new business owner is not making progress. The key is to stay focused and not jump around from one latest marketing fad to the next. I recommend you chose one path and stay on it for a bare minimum of 90 days. Then, see what's working and what is not and make changes as appropriate.
In my Guide, "Path to Profits Online", I teach the number one strategy that is proven to work if you stay with it and take consistent action. I can't guarantee you'll make money, that really is up to you and how much effort you want to put in. What I can do is offer you guidance and support as you embark on your entrepreneurial journey, and celebrate with you when you reach your goals; and I look forward to that!

If I implement your step by step system, how long will it take to earn money?
How long it takes for you to start to turn a profit in your business is really up to you. Every business and business owner is different, with their own unique personalities and businesses. What I recommend is you pick a strategy and then stick with it for at least 90 days or one business quarter, then rinse and repeat, tweaking as necessary. The number one reason that businesses fail is they spend way too much money at the beginning, then jump around frantically from one method to the next, trying to make something work. It takes time to build any business, and online businesses are no different.
I am happy to support you on your journey. I offer a one-time complimentary laser-focus strategy call to new clients. On that call we map out your first or next 3 best steps for you and your business so you come away knowing exactly what to do next. Get my Guide and inside there are instructions for how to schedule a call with me.

Is there a way to get help from a 'real' person if I have more questions?
Yes! Absolutely! I am a small business owner/solopreneur and I am proud of the fact that when you talk to someone, you will talk directly to me; no VA, hired coach or other person will talk with you, you get me 100% of the time! With that said, I always offer a complimentary one time 1:1 laser focus session to clients and potential clients. We hop on Zoom for 30 minutes, you tell me what you're struggling with in your business and I help you map out a 3 step plan for what to do next. No strings attached. I see it as a way to get to know people and develop a working relationship, not a sales call, so no pressure. Get my Guide and inside there are instructions for how to schedule a time to talk with me.
